Daily Prompt: Piano Music Day Poems

For a week of Day Poems, Leslie McFadden chose to write in the evenings, after work, listening to piano music. Her daily meditations provide insight into life's pleasures, questions and reflections. They reveal the poet's tender and wry voice.

Piano Music Day Poems

Sunday August 18, 2013
10:00 p.m.
Chopin-Polonaise No. 6 in A Flat

Old age smacked her down
On a quiet Sunday
With no apologies.
(She immediately signed up for a gym membership).

Monday August 19, 2013
11:45 p.m.
Chopin-Nocturne No. 2 in E Flat

Thank you Delta breeze –--
What a sweet surprise
After a restless day.

Tuesday August 20, 2013
11:00 p.m.
Grieg-Lyric Pieces Notturno Op. 54

Hard edges and soft folds
Collide on origami paper,
Waking her to new possibilities.

Wednesday August 21, 2013
11:00 p.m.
Schubert-Moments Musicaux

Sometimes a glass of wine
Is sublime
And sometimes it’s just a glass of wine.
(Apologies to Barbera wine lovers)

Thursday August 22, 2013
10:00 p.m.
Mozart-Piano Sonata No. 15 in C

Past, present, future connect
In a single note of perfect harmony,
Mozart’s music will endure.

Friday August 23, 2013
11:00 p.m.
Mendelssohn-Rondo Capriccioso Op. 14

Stay the course
Silence the demons
But, which path to follow?

Saturday August 24, 2013
9:00 p.m.
Liszt-Hungarian Rhapsody No. 2 in C Sharp Minor

Gratitude showed up today
In-between bouts of sadness,
Watering plants, and picking up cat hair.

Sunday August 25, 2013
10:00 p.m.
Beethoven-Fur Elise

You came into the world
Big eyes wide open
Ready for the race to begin.

Monday August 26, 2013
10:00 p.m.
Debussy-Girl With the Flaxen Hair

Rim fires, global warming,
Irreversible ecological damage,
Gentle piano music saved my day.

-Leslie A. McFadden

Daily Prompt: Commit to writing a three-line poem within the same block of time, in the same spot, every day for seven days, listening to a track from the same album. See what happens.
